Cowboys, Medal of Honor Museum Hopes to ‘Bring People Together’ – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
From a stadium with art exhibits in Arlington to a brilliant business development in Frisco, the Dallas Cowboys family is still making their mark. But the next big reveal, they think, can unite the United States – and Jerry Jones’ daughter is at the helm.
“We are so proud of The Star, we are proud of the stadium but we are probably more proud of what they really represent,” said Charlotte Jones.
Big and bold is how the Jones family has led the Dallas Cowboys for over three decades and now everyone is watching.
“When you go to the stadium and there are almost 100,000 people there, they are so eager to go out and celebrate with each other, that’s the beauty of our game, and we have the ability to bring people together, ”Jones said. .
Uniting the country is what Jones, who runs the Cowboys brand, said she hopes to achieve.
She chairs the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation, which will sit in Arlington and honor service members who hold the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for bravery in combat.
“I was asked the question: ‘Why now? This project has been a thought for some time. But I almost think it had to happen now with the situation in our country with this intense division, ”Jones said.
All living presidents are on board. The museum focuses on patriotism and those who make the ultimate sacrifice.
“They are doing this so that we can live in a country that we are proud of, so that we can pursue the American Dream and we can be the best of who we are as a country and as individuals who come together to form a community. They are doing it for us and it’s about time we said thank you in a really big way, ”Jones said.
Former Navy Seal and NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy, chief executive officer of the museum, helps Jones lead the effort.
“The medal transcends all politics, all differences of opinion. It’s about the United States of America and what we stand for for the country and that’s what I find so special. Ultimately, it was the character of the person who selflessly took this action that a lot of people wouldn’t do, ”Cassidy said.
With the Cowboys in the spotlight and the success of the team, Jones says they have the opportunity to unite.
“We have incredible visibility on the success, especially right now with unprecedented viewership and interest and if we can take those eyeballs and move them to the museum and really talk about what brings us together and of what unifies us as a country and being able to honor these incredible stories and tell them across the country. Boy, there is nothing bigger than this, ”Jones said.
The National Medal of Honor Museum opens in early 2022.
